George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Homes is an independent family owned firm serving all faiths and backgrounds. It was started in Wellesley in 1937 by George F. Doherty Sr.. Along with his two sons George F. Doherty Jr. and Edward J. Doherty, the family went on to establish three more funeral homes. Dedham in 1963, Needham in 1970, and West Roxbury in 2000.

George F. Doherty is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. He is the first son of founder George F. Doherty Sr. and is the current president and treasurer of the firm. He is a graduate of Wellesley High School, Newman Prep School, Babson College, and the New England Institute. He received his license in 1959. After serving a term in the Air Force Reserves he followed in his father’s footsteps and entered the family business. He is very active in the local community. He is a member of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association, The National Funeral Directors Association, Member of the Dedham Cemetery Advisory Commitee, The Dedham Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), The Society in Dedham for Apprehending Horse Thieves, The B.P.O. Boston Lodge of Elks, the Italo-American Educational Club of Wellesley, The Irish Cultural Centre of New England, the Dedham Knights of Columbus, and the Green Harbor Yacht Club. George and his wife Mary live in Dedham and have three children and eight grandchildren
Edward J. Doherty is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. He is the second son of founder George F. Doherty Sr. and is the current Vice President of the firm. He is a graduate of Wellesley High School, Burdett College, and the New England Institute. He received his license in 1970 and stepped right into the family business joining his father and brother. He is very active in the local community. He is a member of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, the Needham Exchange Club, the Needham Knights of Columbus, the Needham Golf Club, the Village Club of Needham, the Green Harbor Yacht Club, and the Society in Dedham for Apprehending Horse Thieves. He is an usher at St. Joseph’s Church, Needham and a former member of the St. Joseph’s Church Parish Council for six years. He and his wife Lynn live in Needham and have four children.
Edward J. Doherty Jr. is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. He has been a member of the staff of George F. Doherty and Sons since 1998. He is the first son of Edward J. Doherty and grandson of the founder, George F. Doherty Sr. He is a graduate of St. Sebastian’s School, St. Anselm College, and The Funeral Institute of the Northeast. He is very active in the local community and is a member of The Needham Knights of Columbus Council 1611. Patrick J. Twomey is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. He has been on the staff at George F. Doherty & Sons since 1996. He is a graduate of Saint Sebastian’s School, Saint Michael’s College, and the New England Institute. He has been licensed since 2002. He is very active in the local community and is a member of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, The Irish Cultural Centre of New England, and The Society in Dedham for Apprehending Horse Thieves.
John “Jack” P. Doherty has been a member of the staff of George F. Doherty & Sons since 2005. He is the second son of Edward J. Doherty and grandson to the founder, George F. Doherty Sr. He is a graduate of St. Sebastian’s School -2007', Fairfield University - Dolan School of Business -2011'. Jack received his funeral director’s license in 2013 after graduating from Mt. Ida College- The New England Institute in Newton, MA. Jack is active within the local community and enjoys playing hockey, golfing, and fishing.
Gerard V. Locke is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. He has been involved in the funeral profession for forty-two years. He grew up in the Roslindale section of Boston and is a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Brookline, and the New England Institute. He has been licensed since 1966. He has spent most of his career associated with the P.E Murray Funeral Home. He joined the firm in 1964. From 1966 – 1974 he was associated with a Brookline funeral home then he returned to P.E. Murray were he has been the firm’s manager for the past 30 years. He is very active in the local community. He is a member of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, a Notary Public, and a member and usher at St. Susanna’s Church in Dedham. He has served on the Board of Director’s of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association, the Dedham Cemetery Advisory Committee, the Dedham Cable License Renewal Committee, Board of Directors for the Dedham Jaycees, Incorporator, First Clerk and former President of the Dedham Visionary Access.
